Cold & Flash Brew with AeroPress

Learn how to make AeroPress cold brew and flash brew coffee with easy step-by-step recipes for smooth, refreshing iced coffee at home.

Overview

AeroPress brewing combines immersion and pressure to produce a clean, balanced cup with excellent control over strength, extraction, and flavour clarity. It is especially well suited to iced coffee, where brewing variables can be adjusted to shape concentration, sweetness, and overall flavour profile.

The recipes below demonstrate two iced coffee approaches using the inverted method: Cold Brew, designed for a smooth, low-acidity cup with a mellow, rounded profile, and Flash Brew, designed for a brighter, more vibrant cup with enhanced sweetness and clarity.

These recipes can be prepared using paper, metal, or reusable filters. Paper filters typically produce a cleaner, lighter-bodied cup with higher clarity, while metal filters allow more natural oils and fine particles through, increasing body, texture, and depth.

Filter Selection

Filter choice allows AeroPress brewers to tailor clarity, body, and texture to suit different preferences and brew styles.

Paper filters produce a clean, light-bodied cup with high clarity. Cafe Concetto Filter Discs increase body, texture, and the presence of natural oils while maintaining control and consistency.

The Disc Superfine is recommended for clean, sweet, and clarity-focused brews. The Disc Fine is recommended for richer, more body-focused extractions with increased depth and mouthfeel.

Grind size, brew time, water temperature, and filter choice can all be adjusted to refine cup expression. For the most consistent results, change only one brewing parameter at a time when dialling in a recipe.
